Job Description
A reputable and well-established company based in Basildon is seeking a proactive and skilled Building Service Operative to support the ongoing upkeep, compliance, and day-to-day maintenance of its premises. This hands-on role is ideal for someone experienced in general building maintenance who takes pride in creating a safe and efficient working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and general repairs
- Coordinate and oversee subcontractors performing on-site maintenance tasks
- Maintain documentation and implementation of compliance-related tasks to ensure relevant health and safety regulations and policies are adhered to
- Maintain cleanliness and safety in outdoor and perimeter areas
- Support with internal cleaning and hygiene-related duties
- Keep accurate records and perform IT-based reporting related to maintenance
- Legionella water testing, emergency lighting checks and tests, fire alarm tests, fire extinguisher checks, and more.
Essential:
- Prior experience in a Facilities or Building Maintenance role
- Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrics, carpentry, and general repair tasks
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
- IT literacy for documentation and reporting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable with manual handling, working at height, and in confined spaces
Desirable:
- Relevant trade qualifications/certifications (e.g. City & Guilds / NVQ)
- Own tools
- IPAF
- PASMA
Package & Benefits:
- Salary: £36,000 – £38,000 per annum
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays (33 days total)

Working Hours:
- Monday – Friday
- 8:00am – 5:30pm
- 47.5 Hours a Week
